Week 6 - Conclusion Designing Interactive Systems/Assignment 10: Finish project and presentation Due: Friday, February 9th, 2007 @ 2359 Show the latest prototype Most important changes during the design process
How we applied design principles (See also Week 5) We applied principles of visibility, giving feedback to the user by a change of window or color that the step was completed. The user is able to see in which action he is, the gulf of evaluation is not possible. We offered undo functions by giving the ability to delete a wish or modify it. We used the go back to a safe place Tidwell's principles by putting a explicit button to go back in the user page. We used the users languages not computerscience language with words such as wish list, add a person... We provided an online documentation. It could be useful to had screen shots showing how it works precisely in a real application. Helpful to avoid gulf of execution. We have respected the Gestalt laws: fuctions related to the wishes are together and separated from functions related to a person (my connections,my profile, my settings...) or functions on can you wish a wishlist (print, send as email...) We tried to be as simple as possible not putting to much menus or functions in our applications. We tried to be consistent and implemented similar functions in the same way. For example “adding a new wish” and “adding a new contact”. Last but not least, it was an iterative project giving us the ability to correct and improve the design we did. Being in contact with users was very helpful to realize some of our mistakes (changing some names or order...). The biggest challenges One of the biggest challenges in our project was to find the balance between features and simplicity. We decided to deliver only the features, which are important for solving our problem. Another big challenge was to respect the privacy of each user. For this reason, we introduced different contact groups and the ability of adding wishes only to certain groups. Target group We reduced the target group during the process to "10-60 years old people with internet connection". |
