User Interviews: Beatrix K.
User information Beatrix is 23 years old and her nickname is Babsi. She is studying chemistry on diploma at the RWTH Aachen. She and her father are an only child. Her mother has a sister and a brother. She has a boyfriend who has a large family. She is interesting in schmooze of Hollywood and co. and in everything what has to do with chemistry. She is working at a professorship and helps her professor to create the new bachelor study course. She is often find in the laboratory to get money. She has an own appartment in Aachen. She has not much money to buy presents for Christmas or birthdays. As a student she has not much time to think about presents for all her friends. Because she was born and raised in a small family, she does not have much experience with gifts. Today she has a lot of friends. Interview protocol (the interview was hold in German an later translated in English and summarised) Hello Babsi, how are you? Hi, thanks I’m fine. How are you? I' fine too, thanks. We are a group of three computer science students at the RWTH Aachen who would implement an application for a course. We are doing a project to include some more functions in a social network internet application. The new functions are able to help you to find presents for your friends and others. Do you need often ideas for presents? Yes, almost every month and certainly at Christmas. How many gifts you search on the average in the Christmas time? For my own family about five, but with my boyfriend’s family the average increase to fifteen gifts. How much time to you need on the average for each present? Usually I need around a week for a present, but it depends also who I make a present. For some of my friends I need above two weeks and for others I need a couple of days. Really difficult it is for the my boyfriend’s family to find presents. What do you do if you have no idea of a gift? First I try to ask other friends about help or ask for a wish list. But often I have no idea and get impersonal gifts. Do all your friends have wish lists? Actually nearly none of my friends. What is about your and your boyfriends family? Just my boyfriends family have something like a wish book. What do you mean with a “Wish book”? A little book where everyone writes down their wishes. But it’s not really organized. Not? For me it sounds organized. Well, already fulfilled wishes are not cancelled and some wishes it’s unclear who they belong to. Ok. Someone more persons who has a wish list? Yes, my boyfriends little cousins. Ok, here you can see our first storyboard. What do you think about it? It’s a nice idea. And it seem like to be helpful. Now the second storyboard, what you think? It’s a nice idea, that children are able to use this application for writing a letter to Santa. Furthermore they learn to use the internet for good things. This application helps parents to find out what their children wish for Santa. And the children learn to formulate their wishes clearly. Would it be helpful for you to see wish lists of other users? Sure. That would be great then I’m able to fulfilled wishes of my friends. Do you have any suggestions for our wishl application? It would be helpful to see how much the present cost and that a whish, which is already give away, marked for others. It’s important too, that the owner of the whish list doesn’t see, which wishes are marked. Would it be helpful for you to be able to contact persons who already received a suitable gift? Yes, that’s a nice idea. Is a link to a internet shop with a best price helpfully too? Yes, that is a good idea for a small purse. Would it helpfully for you to see old wish lists of somebody? Maybe it’s could be interesting for some presents idea. What do you think about a reminder-function, which reminds you of birthdays? And reminds you if this friend have given you a present for your birthday. It could be an annoying function. Because I don’t want to be remind of everyone’s birthday. She thinks, that the most features we want include are nice. The only thing she doesn’t like is the reminder function. |
